Our Mission

Cuipo (kwee-po) is a social enterprise working to protect and preserve the world’s endangered rainforest, one meter at a time. Through green education, brand activation, and product licensing we raise awareness about the rainforest and deforestation.

Our preservation efforts are centered on the belief that the best way to stop rainforest deforestation is to buy the land and preserve it. We do just that. With revenue from our eco-friendly product lines and partnerships, we purchase large parcels of land for transfer to our non-profit foundation, One Meter at a Time, for permanent preservation. To learn more about One Meter at a Time, please visit our website.

Why Social Enterprise?

A social enterprise is a company that advances its social mission through earned income strategies. We can operate more efficiently and incentivize partnerships and joint ventures by working as a social enterprise as opposed to a non-profit organization. Unlike non-profit organizations which are constantly raising funds to cover a predetermined annual budget, we are able to reinvest proceeds and utilize our capital to purchase exponentially more land and create awareness for our cause.

The Cuipo Tree

A Cuipo tree rises above the canopy in the Cuipo Preserve

The Cuipo tree Cavanillesia platanifolia is an endangered tree from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. The Cuipo can reach a towering height of 40-60 meters (130-200 feet) where the near threatened Harpy Eagle, the national bird of Panama, makes its nest. The wood of the Cuipo tree is used in construction, canoes, food containers and rope. Deforestation has threatened this special tree as approximately 1 acre of rainforest is lost every second.
